    Back On Topic:

Called the Apple Store 800-MY-APPLE line and got confirmation that Apple will use that loophole whenever it wants to and that we can't be assured that a 512MB double order will yield two 512 MB sticks every time. We can't even specify that is the only way we'll exercise that option.

    So FORGETABOUTIT . . .

    Pismos...bah!

The tibook will eventually be discontinued...but I don't think anytime soon. But then again, the "major" updates that people are expected for the tibook in january points toward the discontinuation of the tibook...that might mean a new processor;)

Even though the ti has its problems, it also has an appeal. The thinness of the ti is unrivaled by comparable PCs (the laptops with a 15" screen) Sure there are thinner laptops, but they all have 12.1" screen. The slot loading drive also give the ti a clean, no-nonsense look, very conservative, yet the thin metal look makes it sexy. The ti is nice right now, and if they discontinue it at paris (I highly doubt it), i'll be sorely disappointed.

    My two pesos :p

i have absolutely no inkling of belief in this naked mole rat. he knows nothing and is trying to shake things up. no person with any real knowledge coming from the depths of apple will be so superfluous with his words. the man embellishes everything with a pseudo-SAT word in order to feel more intelligent than he actually is.

do not believe this report. i hope IBM and Apple are working together...but do not believe this report.

I was just thinking about one those old, old keyboards that was part of the Lear-Siegler ADM-3A, (http://www.old-computers.com/history/detail.asp?n=32&t=3) which you can see at the link. I spent a lot of time using that generic keyboard as well as a number of DEC terminals before I got my first computer job, including the IBM 5250 block mode terminals, which had a typewriter style keyboard with command (function) keys.

Things were different back then but many terminals didn't have arrow keys and some had embedded arrow keys that required shift or control to make them work. The W, A, S, and D keys worked with some applications. Others required you to simply backspace and re-type everything, though everything was often an 80 (or 40) character line.

actually anyone before 2003 is old school since many joined after that ;)

there will be a flood of 2003 members in the top ten i think, no posters from 2000, and maybe three from 2001

the 2002 and 2003 posters will dominate the top 100 spots i think since they came into macrumors when it was a full on site with everything to talk about...many earlier posters had much less to talk about and macrumors was definitely in its early days

i am one strange one who loved the old days before limitations and moderators...while i believe moderators do a great job, i liked it when it was more self governing

but with over 20000 members here, there is definitely a need for order and thus for moderators

i think arn should assign several more mods to make your jobs easier...something like three mods for every ten thousand more members to make it more manageable...you guys could do with six working mods and maybe more

i would like to see j-lo, shadowfax, and wdlove as mods...those are my nominations for the next three to help you guys out, and if you need more, elect mr. macman, krossfyter, and king cobra

and one can't forget macbandit either

    :D

Especially not in "hardware specs." So what if these things are released around the time of a 4+ GHz P4. WHO THE HECK REALLY WANTS THAT CRAP?!

If you're into Apple, freaking yay. But don't act like a bunch of little weenies and get all super-paranoid and stressed over what may or may not happen in the future. Please. Apple will still be there, and if you're still a Mac user by then, you'll probably be pretty happy with the offerings. Enjoy what you have now, and get over it already. It's so funny you can go onto a forum and see hundreds of people bickering and going bonkers over the latest dorky Mac rumor, and almost nobody talking about what they even DO with their machines. Wudda world, wudda world...

Why is it that I have an old rev A G4 450 Sawtooth that rocks out to this day, even with its Rage 128 AGP (not Pro) graphics card. And all sorts of peeps are freaked because THE UBERMAC's freakin' SPEC scores are weak. I know that I couldn't give a rat's arse, and that's true for 97.5% of the Mac user base. I love my machine as much today -- no, in fact more -- than the day it arrived. The PPC970's are going to be BEASTS, and the thought of them makes me quiver.

    :P

    Amen!

I've got the same machine at work and with the proper RAM the only thing it runs slowly is Aqua (and all the speed issues that are inherently part of OSX). Everything flies in 9 of course, but I haven't been there for a while. All this wankin' is about numbers, not about getting work done. It's about being perceived by the Wintel Geek Contingent as having wimpy hardware. Unfortunately for Apple, computers are being seen less as wizz-bang electronic Godsends and more like appliances. They will be expected to have the same shelf-life as your microwave oven because unless they break down, they get the job done.

Uh huh. Did you ever use some of the early IBM mice. Three buttons, over-sized, bulky and purley hopeless. I agree that the puck-mouse wasnt the best mouse ever, but it was easy to use. All you had to do was apply good ergnomic technique and hold your hand above the mouse not rest it on the mouse. simple.

You just didnt like it because it was different. Do you like OSX??? Its different.

Wil do Zap. The thread has been cleaned up ;) Enjoy your :apple: TV. I REALLY have no need for one but I'm trying to justify one in my own head :D

We can add those games to an April or May list whenever you want to pick them up.

Ah, that makes more sense. NeoOffice is the product name. There are two versions, the /C (cocoa) and /J (java) which are aqua implementations of OpenOffice.org.

/c is dead. The amount of work required to re-write the code to fit a cocoa framework would be a lot for a full team of programmers, much less two. Ed talked about that more on the forum.

/j is the current one. it may not be pretty, but it is as native OSX as /C wanted to be, and infinitly more stable.

as for the site, the hope is if you go to the main page (http://www.neooffice.org) it would be clearer. but i do understand, right now there are three sites sorta working together to be the neooffice website.

here is a breakdown of the 'variants'

    http://neowiki.sixthcrusade.com/index.php/OpenOffice.org_and_its_Macintosh_ports

    -j
Thanks for the reply. Maybe you should bury, or at least hide, NeoOffice/C and promote NeoOffice/J as *the* NeoOffice. Just a suggestion, but I think it would make things a bit clearer to someone visiting the site for the first time. Anyway, all the work you folks have done is greatly appreciated!

Your powerbook will get hot and the fan will be constantly running while you are folding. I suggest a targus coolpad with fans to keep it cool and to keep the loud PB fan from running. I have one, and it works like a charm. Keeps my PB folding quietly :)
